This series of video tutorials show you the basics of searching for research articles using the bibliographic database CINAHL; and also how to document your searches. The goal is to provide you with enough skills to handle most projects in your courses requiring a literature search.
STARTING SIMPLE
This video shows you some simple steps to get you started when you need to find a few relevant research articles to address a question in occupational therapy. For many literature searches, you will begin in the Cumulative Index to Nursing & Allied Health Literature (CINAHL). You will also use words from your question, which represent the main concepts, as your initial search terms.
MODIFYING SEARCH TERMS
Continuing from the previous tutorial, this video shows you several ways to identify alternative search terms and modify existing terms to retrieve additional research articles; or to find articles when your initial search retrieves no results.
DOCUMENTING SEARCHES
This final video shows you how to document your searches to help you keep more organized and to have the information you might need when describing your search for a paper. You will learn to use CINAHL’s Search History. You will also be introduced to other techniques to use when undertaking extensive literature searches.
