Insert Citations From Your Mendeley Library

Inserting citations: searching your Mendeley library

1. Place the cursor where you want the citation to go.
2. Click Insert Citation under the References tab.
3. Click the Go To Mendeley button on the search box to view your complete library.


4. Select the citation(s) to add (use the CTRL key to select more than one citation).
5. Click the Send Citation to Word Processor icon.

To Edit a Reference: (for example, to add a specific page number to an in-text citation) just place your cursor where the edit should go and type.

Insert Citations From Within Your Word Document

The Mendeley Word plugin can be found under the References tab of Microsoft Word 2007. Be sure to have both your Word document and your Mendeley Desktop library open (you can't insert citations from Mendeley online).

Inserting citations: searching within your Word document

1. Place your cursor where you want the citation to go.
2. Click Insert Citation under the References tab.

3. In the search window that appears, enter a search term to bring up the citation(s) you need. Note that you can insert more than one citation at a time.
4. Click OK.

The default collection for selecting references is My Library, but you can also choose one of your shared collections from the drop down menu - excellent for collaborative work.
